RV Road Trip Checklist

Whether you're part of the 25% of Canadian RV campers who like to stay close to home, or you prefer to wander further afield, one thing is for certain. You need to make sure that you have covered all the road trip essentials before you leave.

This easy-to-follow guide includes items you may have overlooked while planning your RV road trip. It covers everything from personal items to first aid to RV windshield replacements in Sidney or Victoria BC

First Aid

Bandages are pretty much a given when it comes to packing a first aid kit. But here are some essentials you might not have thought of:

  • Tweezers

  • Allergy Pills

  • Ibuprofen

  • Motion Sickness Tablets

  • Alcohol wipes

  • Different sized bandages

  • Eyedrops

  • Neosporin

  • Antacids

  • Aloe vera

  • Insect repellent

It's important to tailor your first aid kit to your specific family needs. If you have a large family, you should make sure to pack extra. And don't forget specialty items, like an EpiPen for someone with a food allergy.

Cleaning Supplies

If you're staying close to town during your RV road trip, then it's easy to pop into a shop if you forget something. But if you're going backcountry camping in one of Canada's beautiful National Parks, forgetting things like toilet paper or trash bags is a pretty big deal.

  • Toilet paper

  • Holding tank chemicals

  • Toilet bowl cleaner

  • Toilet tabs for freshness

  • Paper towels

  • Sponges

  • Dish soap

  • Hand soap

  • Disinfecting wipes

  • Laundry detergent

  • Window cleaner

  • Dishtowels

  • Air freshener

  • Rubber gloves

  • Trash bin bags

  • Plastic bags

Make sure to take all of your garbage and belongings with you when you leave the campsite.

Personal Items

The clothing you pack will depend on where you're going and the time of year but, don't forget personal items that will enhance your comfort on your RV road trip.

  • Sunblock

  • Quick-dry towel

  • Toothbrush

  • Cotton swabs

  • Floss

  • Deodorant

  • Face wipes or wash

  • Toothpaste

  • Shower soap or gel

  • Lip balm

  • Lotion

  • Sleeping mask

You also might want to pack a few extra pairs of socks and a warm jacket, just in case.

Emergency Kit

Your emergency kit is one of the most essential parts of your RV road trip checklist. It should include the following:

  • Bottled water

  • Non-perishable snacks

  • Extra blankets

  • Jumper cables

  • Bungee cords

  • Rope

  • Road flare

  • Safety vest

  • Flashlight

  • Spare tire

  • Candles

Also, don't forget spare batteries for your flashlight and other electronics.

Basic RV Necessities

No one likes to sleep on a slant or suddenly realize they have no way of emptying their sewage tank. These RV nightmares will ruin any road trip. So think ahead and don't forget the following:

  • Wheel blocks

  • Levelers

  • Tire pressure gauge

  • Water pressure regulator

  • Dump hose

  • Portable generator

  • Folding chairs

  • Extension cords

  • Extra rags

  • Work gloves

Now that you've packed everything you might need, there are a few RV maintenance items to attend to.

Pre-Trip Maintenance

Whether you use your RV regularly or it's been sitting around gathering dust, one of the most important pre-trip checklist items is making sure it's in working condition. You can do some of these things yourself, like checking the tire pressure, tire tread wear, and oil.

Others require a professional, such as a brake change or a glass inspection. If there are any cracks in your windshield, then you'll definitely need an RV windshield replacement before you set out.

RV Glass Services on the Island

Now that you're all packed and ready to go, don't forget to stop by Capital Auto Glass in Sidney or Victoria for a quick and reliable RV windshield repair or replacement. They will get you out on the road and enjoying your adventure in no time.
