Common RV Window Problems and Issues

One of the last things you want when travelling the road in your RV is to find out your windows are broken. A broken RV window can let in all kinds of cold air, bugs, and moisture from outside. In some cases, it may also prove a safety hazard if a cracked window begins to break.

On average, an RV is expected to last between 10 to 20 years before it reaches the end of its lifespan. Odds are that you'll find yourself searching for window repair services for your vehicle at some point. In a worst-case scenario, you may require an RV window replacement

Here are some of the common window problems to look out for and how to fix them.

Leaking RV Window

One of the top issues you'll face is a leaking window due to a failing weather-strip. Leaks let in drafts, which can reduce the effectiveness of your RV’s heating or coolig. It can also result in excess moisture getting in through your windows.

A draft is a minor inconvenience that could result in overtaxing your vehicle's condenser. Too much moisture can lead to window damage, mould, wood rot, and corrosion. An RV window repair kit should come with the tools to fix the seal.

Cracked or Broken Glass

Something you definitely shouldn't ignore is cracked or broken glass. You should get any chips or cracks repaired immediately if you want to avoid them becoming a safety hazard.

To help prevent broken glass, clean your windshield regularly and avoid extreme temperatures. For example, avoid pouring hot water on a windshield to get rid of ice. The sudden temperature change can crack or shatter it.
